If you keep up with the foodies blogs, then you’ve come across my post on The Good Nature Market and Vegetarian Cafe where I declared those the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had… I am happy to say life is filled with surprises! If you haven’t already, read up on our blogs for honest feedback on local Eastern Panhandle restaurants, and follow all our social accounts so we can give you only the best reviews!
The Blue Moon Cafe was no accidental treasure to be discovered! It is a hot spot not just for those down in Shepherdstown, but all over the Eastern Panhandle too! My aunt is a proud alumna of Shepherdstown University, and to this day she can remember the wonderful dishes served at Blue Moon!

Price π²π²π²π² out of 5
The prices weren’t terrible, just what you’d expect to find at a typical dine-in restaurant. I can imagine how expensive it could get if you were to get more than a few items, and that’s not including drinks.

Ambience π§βπ³π§βπ³π§βπ³ out of 5
Though it may look like a cozy small cottage on the outside, it surprised me how spacious and neverending it was on the inside! Around every corner was another seating area, plus they offer outside seating too. Taking advantage of the beautiful weather we had, we chose to sit outside, which was like entering a jungle tiki oasis! They even had a little stream going through it. We got lucky and had a whole section to ourselves.
If I had to complain, and you know I always do, the service was a bit slower than I would have liked. I know nothing about running a restaurant, but for the number of customers to servers, it could have been a bit better. That said, our server Jasmine was lovely, very kind, and on the ball getting our order down and checking if we needed our refreshments refilled. Shoutout to her!

No drinky drinks this time, unless you were wanting to hear how refreshing the water was on the lovely spring day we had!

Fried Pickles
I am a sucker for fried pickles, and conveniently they just added them to the menu, so it was a match made in heaven! They were perfectly fried, not soggy or too crispy! They came with a sauce, and I unfortunately cannot remember what it was called, but it was very good! I highly recommend getting them!

Chicken Quesadilla
This had grilled chicken breast, spinach, tomato, onion, jalapeΓ±o peppers, cheddar & mozzarella cheese melted between flour tortillas. Served with salsa, sour cream, and tortilla chips.
This was my aunt’s meal, and it took me by surprise how HUGE it was. When she said she was getting a quesadilla, I thought I was going to have to share my sub, thinking she’d be hungry afterwards from a few pieces of chicken and cheese on a tortilla, but man, was I wrong. Not only was it big, but it also had some delicious veggies to complement the cheese and, sadly, yes, the poor chicken. She ended up only eating two pieces and taking the rest home!

Philly Shroom
This had portabella mushrooms, caramelized onions, tomato, and melted mozzarella cheese on a hoagie roll with sun-dried tomato & garlic mayo. Served with chips & a pickle.
OH MY LANTA! This was beyond delicious! The flavors, the size, the gooeyness, heck even the smell gave your traditional Philly cheesesteak, minus the slaughter of a sweet cow! I highly recommend indulging in this sub, for veggie and non-veggie lovers! As you can guess, I opted for the sweet potatoes instead of the chips, and just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, I was thankfully mistaken! The sweet potato fries were out of this world. So fluffy and luscious that, as I am typing this now, my stomach growls with the memories of their goodness! If you take anything into consideration from this blog, let it be that you need to go get you some!

I really enjoyed eating at the Blue Moon, and cannot wait to take friends and family there too! Don’t just take my word for it though, try it for yourself, and let us know what you think. Comment in our Foodies Facebook group, our Insta, or even in this blog. I look forward to seeing what you have to say, but more importantly… SHARE some hidden veggie spots you may know, and/or where a girl can get some tasty sweet potato fries! Until next time!
