The Foodies team took a trip over to Winchester, VA to try some of the biggest hidden gems when it comes to Italian and Mexican food.  Our first stop was at Touch of Italy, located at the Sunnyside shopping complex off of Route 37.  This spot is serving authentic Italian dishes, wines, and desserts, and they are very cognizant of having an inclusive menu that caters to those with gluten sensitivity and those looking for low carb options.  We love a restaurant that embraces that everyone has different eating preferences!

Price 💲💲out of 5

Many of the Italian and Mexican restaurants in the area have pretty standard pricing, and Touch of Italy is no different.  With the size of the portions, you could easily split an entree with someone else.  You can get high quality food, made fresh every day with locally sourced ingredients, for a very fair price.  Only a few items on a very expansive menu will run you more than $20, making this an easy place to grab lunch or dinner without breaking the bank.

Touch of Italy has a very clean and inviting atmosphere, with plenty of Italian decor on the walls.  The best part about this establishment is that they have a rentable party room in the back, making it the perfect place for a family gathering, birthday party, or after church meal.  Italians value meals with family greatly, and that sense of intimacy and community shine through at Touch of Italy.

Here are the dishes we got to try at Touch of Italy:

Caprese Salad – thick cut, juicy tomatoes covered with creamy mozzarella and garnished with balsamic.  What’s not to love?

Supreme Pizza – this pizza was loaded with pepperoni, meatball, cheese, onions, mushrooms, and green peppers.  The dough was phenomenal.  The sauce had a nice sweetness to it.  I do think it could have stayed in the oven just a bit longer, as the veggies weren’t quite as cooked as I would have liked.

Pescatore Alla Gigi – what an absolutely incredible dish!  I am a massive seafood fan, and this dish was jam packed with fresh scallops, shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels.  The linguine was so light and airy, and the garlic lemon sauce was very forward facing.  Huge fan of this dish.

Shrimp and Broccoli – one of their low carb options, this was a simple dish with just a few ingredients.  Sauteed shrimp and broccoli in a light lemon butter sauce.  Great option for those who are looking to cut carbs.
