Yet another stop on our culinary tour around the county, Locust Hill Golf Course was a homecoming of sorts for me, as I grew up in the neighborhood as a kid and have amazing memories of living there.  Even though I lived there for nearly 20 years, I never actually stopped into the clubhouse to grab something to eat – so I was pumped to be able to do so this past weekend in anticipation of their involvement with Jefferson County Restaurant Week.  Even though the Golf Course is in the Locust Hill community, anyone is welcome to come in and sample some of their incredible food!

Price 💲out of 5

You cannot beat the price at Locust Hill Golf Course.  Seriously, these are some of the most budget-friendly prices I have seen at a restaurant in a long time.  Their paninis average out to between $6 and $7, they have wing specials every Thursday that includes $.50 boneless and $.80 traditional wings, and they have an incredible Restaurant Week special, two paninis and two draft beers for only $22 dollars.  Bring your significant other or your golfing buddy down this week and you can both eat lunch for about $11 a person!

Many people outside of the neighborhood might not know this, but Locust Hill Golf Course suffered a catastrophic fire about a decade ago that engulfed the original clubhouse.  They have since rebuilt a smaller clubhouse, and considering the circumstances, have done a phenomenal job creating a space where golfers and non-golfers alike can enjoy a bite, buy some merchandise, or just sit at a table and play cards.  The place is on the smaller side, but the staff is super friendly and the vibes are really chill.

On this trip, we not only tried the Restaurant Week special of two paninis (and the beer, although I only had a sip as I am not a big beer drinker), we also got an order of their buffalo chicken wings with homemade ranch.  Let’s start with the paninis.

We got the Italian (ham, salami, capicola, provolone cheese) and the Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms, peppers, and onions.  The Italian hit like an Italian sandwich should – savory from the meats and cheeses with a nice toasted panini bread.  A little more oil and vinegar would have really set it off, but it was still really solid.  The Philly was incredibly melty and creamy.  It was my favorite of the two because I am a big fan of Philly cheesesteaks.  Each panini came with a side of potato chips, cole slaw, and a pickle spear.  I am not usually a big coleslaw fan, but this coleslaw was sweet and the cabbage wasn’t overly crunchy.  Really good flavor all around.

The wings were incredible as well.  They were perfectly crispy and very meaty.  The buffalo sauce had a minor kick, but nothing the average person couldn’t handle.  They make their own homemade ranch which was zesty and creamy.  Unlike some spots, they also gave you a very large portion of ranch, which was plenty big enough for the whole plate of wings and celery.

I always feel nostalgic coming back home, but since I had never once dined at Locust Hill Golf Course, I had no preconceived notions of how the food would be.  I was very satisfied with everything there, and if my schedule allows, I may try to go there for their March Madness specials coming up in a few weeks.  If you want a quick bite to eat during Restaurant Week, or are looking for a spot to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day or March Madness, head on down to the Locust Hill Golf Course!
