Mothers deserve the world, so this Mother’s Day we took Robbie out to brunch. Ironically, we happened to stumble upon Matchbox since we were already down in the Ashburn area and were looking for a great spot to celebrate her. We are so happy we ended up at Matchbox for their new weekend brunch. This was one of the best brunch experiences I have ever experienced, and as someone who is always looking for the best value, this is probably my new top spot for brunch in the area.

This type of brunch isn’t something most people can do every weekend, but when you are ready to splurge a bit, this is definitely the right option. For adults, the price is $45, which seems like a steal for the amount and quality of food you can get. The best part about this spot, though, is that the kid price is actually highly discounted. Children 10 and under get the same options for only $14. As a father of a very picky seven-year-old, this is the type of thoughtfulness that makes me want to continue to support this business. There are additional add ons for bottomless alcohol as well.

I love everything about this place. Not only do they have plenty of seating, including multiple rooms across multiple floors, they also have an outdoor bar area that would be so awesome in the Fall for watching football. The staff was friendly, although I do wish they were a bit more attentive, but understandably it was a busy Saturday right before Mother’s Day. All in all, this is a place that I will definitely be coming back to, especially during football Sundays.

Food 🥩🥩🥩🥩🥩 out of 5
There is so much food on this menu that we couldn’t possibly try everything, but I’ll highlight all the food that I was able to sample. For starters, the menu is broken down into two sections. There is a buffet set up in stations, and then there are items you can order off the menu that are served family style. For the buffet, there was a taco bar, waffle bar, carving station, and omelet station. On the menu, we sampled a lot of dishes, including the chicken and waffles, blueberry lemon pancakes, oysters on the halfshell, pizza, shrimp po boy, and the biscuits.
Taco bar: these tacos were so good. They had different tortilla options, eggs, beef, and chicken for protein, and all kinds of toppings. Love the ability to customize!

Waffle bar: this was a big hit with my little one, who loved all the toppings, including mini oreos, syrup, and sprinkles.

Carving station: there was pork and prime rib. The prime rib was pretty good, but had its limitations with being served this way. The pork was surprisingly juicy and flavorful, and was one of my favorite dishes of the day.

Oysters on the half shell: I got my fair share of oysters, as it is one of my favorite foods. The unlimited oysters is reason enough to come here for me. They weren’t huge, but they were briny and delicious.

Biscuits: clearly homemade, these biscuits were pillowy and massive. They were served with a trio of jams/butters.

Tuna tartare: so amazing. The tuna was served on a bed of avocado which made it so creamy. I love fresh, raw fish so this was a top three dish for me.

Hot honey pepperoni pizza: I was reaching capacity at this point, but I had a slice of this and loved the kick of the honey with the crispiness of the pepperoni.

Shrimp po boy: this thing was MASSIVE, and filled to the brim with friend shrimp. The bread was just too much for me with all the food, but the shrimp, remoulade, and fresh veggies were such a good pairing.

Chicken and waffles: another showstopping dish, the chicken was fried and seasoned beautifully, while the waffles were crispy on the edges and soft on the inside. Combined with the sweet maple syrup, this decadent dish is a must order.

Lemon and blueberry pancakes: what a killer flavor combo. I loved that they didn’t just serve plain pancakes, but created a dish that had a real flavor profile. A little sweet, a little tart, and extremely filling.

Needless to say, we had to be rolled out of there after all that food! I didn’t even get to sample the wings or the sliders, or the other half-dozen dishes on the menu.

I rarely hand out five stars, but this place deserves it. It is my new favorite brunch spot, and I already have plans to take the rest of the foodies team there (once my food digests fully!) Nothing else to say here other than do yourself a favor and make reservations for this coming weekend!
