I’m always on the lookout for a good pizza, and I finally was able to make it out to Oak Stone to try their delicious, custom-built pies.  I was absolutely blown away by how fresh the ingredients were, how crispy the crust was, and how customization-friendly their menu is.  The service was incredible as well.  We went on a weekday for dinner and had to wait about 30 minutes to get a seat – that is how you know you have come across a local favorite.

Price 💲💲out of 5

While Oak Stone is known for their wood fired pizzas, they also have appetizers, salads, and main entrees.  The apps range from $7 to $12, the salads are a reasonable price if you are looking for something light, and the entrees will run you anywhere from $17 to $22.  All in all, these prices are extremely fair.  The main star of the show, the pizzas, come in 10” and 14”, and the smaller pies average around $15 with the larger pies around $20.  They are using premium ingredients and unique combinations, so these prices seem more than fair.

Ambience 🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳 out of 5

Oak Stone is quintessential Winchester.  The entire restaurant is an ode to the city, with beautiful artwork from local artists all over the wall.  They have two different dining areas plus a decently sized bar.  They also have some outdoor seating areas, but it was raining that day so no one was outside.  Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves throughout the restaurant.  The area by the bathrooms is a little tight, so just be aware of your surroundings if you are standing by those doors.

Food 🥩🥩🥩🥩🥩 out of 5

We had a group of five joining us for dinner, so we got a couple appetizers and everyone got their own pizza.  Before digging into the items, I want to reiterate the amazing customization options that Oak Stone offers.  Not only do they offer two sizes of pizza, but you can add or remove toppings and, most importantly, you can pay a small fee to split the pizza in half so you can try two different specials.  I love when restaurants allow the consumer to get exactly what they want!

Fried pickles – these were a bit different than traditional pickle chips or spears.  They were the size of a baby carrot, which made them a great combination of still being poppable but also allowing the pickle to shine through.  They are served with a spicy ranch to dip that actually has a kick.

Crab-topped fried green tomatoes – this was a featured item, so not sure they will always have it on the menu, but they were decadent.  Plenty of jumbo lump crab meat on top of perfectly fried green tomatoes.

We tried a ton of different pizza options, including the five cheese, bee knee’s, vermonter, carnivore, and street taco.

Five cheese pizza – this is in contention for best pizza I have ever had.  I asked for extra goat cheese, and it was indulgent.  I will order this every time I go to Oak Stone.

Bee’s knees pizza – I was a bit apprehensive about this one because it had apples and rosemary on it.  I asked to not have the rosemary added because I hate the taste of it, but I kept the apples and I’m so happy I did.  It was so creamy and a little sweet.

Vermonter – what seems like a crowd favorite, this pie had sausage, sun-dried tomatoes, and red onions.  A little tart from the tomatoes and onions, a little sweet from the sausage.  A perfect combo.

Carnivore – if you are a meat lover, you will love this one.  While it was a bit too salty for me, that is because I prefer a balanced mix of meats and veggies on my pizza.

Street taco – such an awesome idea to mix street tacos with a pizza pie.  A spiced beef and chorizo blend, jalapenos, corn salsa, and queso fresco?  I mean come on!

Experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5

Oak Stone earned a coveted five star review from me.  I do not hand them out lightly, so I have to really be blown away by a spot.  From the fresh quality of the ingredients to the incredible atmosphere to everything being fully customizable, this was a memorable experience.  I cannot wait to go back to get some more wood fired pizzas from Oak Stone!
