The Rabbit Hole Gastropub: Don’t Miss Out on this Beautifully Delicious Experience!

You already know I have veggie options at your disposal, but I tell you the view alone will satisfy you!

The Rabbit Hole Gastropub is probably one of my favorite new restaurants to visit. Planning a date-day with my fiance, my uncle and aunt suggested that we visit the lovely Harpers Ferry, which had more to do than I expected and planned for. There were so many family-fun things to do, from hikes to eateries to museums to parks to shops of all kinds, that I was not dressed for, shoes or outfit wise. Fair warning: be dressed for the outdoors, and wear shoes you do not mind doing lots of walking in.

The prices were fair and affordable. Our meal was a bit more because my fiance decided he wanted to have a beer or two, but even with those, it didn’t break the bank.

The view! The view was so amazing! The Rabbit Hole has outdoor and indoor dining. The interior was cute. I imagined I was in a log cabin or a pirate ship. They have a bar you may sit at as well if you aren’t looking to take up a table. We opted to sit outside, which I am so glad we did, because it was beautiful! Our table faced the opposite side of the building, displaying the railing and, more importantly, a large, luscious green mountain complemented by the blue sky and clouds surrounding it. It looked as if it were a painting. I was in awe, and that wasn’t all. A train rolled in shortly after we sat down, which I found cool. I wish I had captured it, but like a child, I wanted to watch what seemed to be a never-ending train chugging on in front of the mountain.

Though there were many splendid sights to see, the parking and traffic due to crowds of people were treacherous. Now, I enjoy hiking and walking, but only when I am prepared for it. There were only a few street spots you could park at, but the heart of the fun had none and was drowned with people, which made it hard to drive through to get to those places. Be cautious. Our anxiety was sky high, but we made it through, and so can you, with a few bumps in the road….pun intended! For clarification, nobody was harmed in the process. Moving on, there was a parking lot, used for hikes I assume, but you will need to be blessed with luck for it. It only had a few spots, and for the early birds out there, many were filled already. Thankfully, we managed to secure one, but it was a hike in itself to get to town, and my shoes were eating at my feet.

Drinks 🍺🍺🍺 out of 5

There were tons of drink options for your choosing. It had its own menu, with fountain drinks, fruity drinks, wine, and yes, beer, plus many more as well.

Big Timber IPA

Forgive me, but all beer tastes the same to me: not good. Sadly, I believed my fiance when he said, “No baby, this one tastes different. You might like it.” Spoiler: I DID NOT, but he did! Having said that, if you or someone you know likes the taste or feeling you get with beer, I recommend grabbing one or two at the bar, or ordering one with your meal.

Oh boy!

Red Rice and Hemp Burger

Consists of a 1⁄4 lb house made red rice and hemp seed patty, topped with caramelized onions, BBQ sauce, and cheddar cheese, served on a brioche bun.

After what I would say was a decent walk, uphill, I had worked up an appetite some wouldn’t call ladylike. This bad boy of a veggie burger was on a whole new level from a simple meat substitute. With an appearance that could have been mistaken for a beef patty, this veggie patty was delicious and something I had never tried before. It held up very well for being made from rice and seeds, filling my belly up with only a few bites. Truly satiating, it made me want to eat more and more. As I stated before, I typically opt for sweet potato fries, and this time was no different.

Appalachian BBQ Sandwich

Consists of smoked hand-pulled North Carolina style pork butt, topped with BBQ sauce, served on a brioche bun with house Alabama white sauce and coleslaw.

If the pork butt wasn’t a giveaway, this was my fiance’s meal, which he devoured! Like me though, with the food being so delicious and satiating, he was full after a couple of bites; that didn’t stop him though! It was both his and my first time having fries that were battered, which, according to our waiter, Liam, merely meant they were crispier than your standard fry. Regardless, it tasted good, but what made it for us was that House Alabama White Sauce. My gosh, was that bomb! I ordered a side of that sauce for myself. I also tried his coleslaw, which was fine, but too vinegary for my liking.

Experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5

I was told the restaurant, and Harpers Ferry in general, was a beauty to behold at night. With all the lights glowing bright and the town hugged by mountain ranges, I will definitely have to visit to see this wonder for myself, and I urge you to do the same! My recommendation for those who will have more than a party of two: call ahead or make a reservation. We were thankful for only being two people and waited ten minutes, but those with more had to wait up to thirty minutes or more. Very popular indeed. Worth it? I will let you decide. Go try it out and see what all the hype is about!
